In Singapore, about 1,600 public services are
provided online. The services do not just provide citizens with
information, but also enable citizens to carry out transactions like
filing taxes, applying for passports and even registering businesses
online among others. However, this is not enough. According to Deputy
Prime Minister Lee Hsien
Loong, “Putting services on line is not
sufficient. If Singaporeans are not comfortable with computers and the
Internet, everything we develop - the IT infrastructure, the portals -
will stay idle.”
